It has been a while since I watched The Suicide Squad, but I found it profoundly overrated and didn't bother to share my thoughts about this movie. While David Ayer is following the footsteps of Zack Snyder to revive his vision for his lackluster Suicide Squad released in 2016, James Gunn might have stolen any possibility of that happening any time soon.

I don't remember much about The Suicide Squad since it wasn't memorable at all. It is another mixed bag of superhero movie tropes and cliches - all those deaths were overkill, and the roster full of known and obscure characters did nothing apart from educating me about DC's hidden vault of characters. I get it, James Gunn envisions to become the Grant Morrisson or Tom King of superhero movies by introducing obscure characters to the masses, and it is not a bad idea at all, but he lacks the storytelling finesse of Morrisson or King.

This film is a mixed bag of good and bad moments - some are enjoyable while others are dull. With James Gunn at the helm of things, his usual comedy puns feel redundant at times. The action is not bad but overdone at times, which is the case in most superhero movies these days. The visual effects are also good with loads of violence.

The story is about a new ragtag band of supervillains who go up against an alien threat.

James Gunn does what he does as director. The ensemble cast is prolific but not acting-wise. Honestly, I never expected any heart-wrenching performances from the stars in The Suicide Squad.

Whether we will ever get to see the Ayer cut or not, in my opinion, James Gunn's rendition of the Suicide Squad is equally forgettable as Ayer's.
