B OR NOT TO B #5 - Fall Guy: The John Stewart Story (2007)

Fall Guy: The John Stewart Story - How can someone be so wrong about oneself?
Director: John Stewart
Cast: Jason David Frank, Gloria Carmona, Paul Logan

The film currently holds a rating of 6.9 on IMDB (out of 71 votes), which is completely misguiding. Moreover, some user suggested that the film had some great stunts. I may agree to the second part, but the rating is totally wrong. I suppose, only the people involved in the film have voted. The film is purely distorted and pointless.

Unlike other films in the B or not to B series, this one wasn’t made in the 90’s, rather it came out in 2007. There’s no point talking about the film, so let’s talk about John Stewart and he ain’t no Green Lantern. The film is based on the life of Hollywood stuntman and stunt director John Stewart who became a director later in his career. As a matter of fact, Fall Guy: The John Stewart Story was directed by John Stewart himself, which means he directed his own life. But the question is, how someone can make such a badly written, badly acted and badly directed film about himself? No wonder it was his last film as director. Jason David Frank who worked with John Stewart on Power Rangers series failed to bring any charm as the titular character.

The only good thing about the film is a couple of good stunts that are basically a re-creation of stunts either done or directed by John Stewart. Otherwise, the film is a nightmare in terms of acting, direction and awful editing. Trust me, I’ve seen John Stewart’s story, and I strongly advise to stay away from it. No disrespect to John’s glorious career as a stuntman and stunt director.

Note: B or not to B is series of articles based on the B Action movies of the 80’s and 90’s. I am a big fan of these movies because they have a certain flavor not everyone can cherish. Many may cite them as sheer work of misdirected minds, but to me, they are a  source of real inspiration. These movies never had the budget to back them but still, the action and stunts were no less than any big studio. This is my tribute to some of the unsung films of the past.
